  20. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
  21. Charlotte Amalie, the main town of St.Thomas, is a 15-minute taxi ride into shopping paradise. A reputation for duty free goods( including jewelry, perfume, cameras and electronics)  shoppers from  cruise ships flock here with each docking day. However, take a break from shopping to notice the old Danish architecture of this centuries-old town - complete with Danish street names. The U.S. bought the islands in 1917 from Denmark.

  24. Non-guests of Sapphire Beach Resort are invited to use the beach (as well as the bar and restaurant, of course)  located directly in front of the hotel. Entrance is through the Sapphire Beach property.

  26. QUALITY OF BEACH:
  27. An expansive horseshoe-shaped cove. The golden sand is coarse  and spongy and in some places the reefs are too near the shoreline for swimming. Note that in sections of the bay (where the reef is further out) the water is particularly blazingly blue, notably under that dazzling midday sun.
